    Porsche Classic article on 1973 2.8 RSR - 9113600894

Issue 45 of Porsche Classic Magazine was just released with a feature article called "It's the The Real Deal" on this Viper Green 2.8 RSR chassis 9113600894. Eugen Kiemele raced this 2.8 RSR 26 times in 1973 with 9 wins and 12 podiums. Based on the history, it is also believed this 2.8 RSR raced at Le Mans 3 times. Go out and get your copy of the article.

They're certainly different to 2.7 RS as described in the article. A colleague at the F1 team that I advised / worked for over many years has one of the original circa 50 '73 M491 that is kept at the factory. It has engine 3.0 upgrade like a number of them had fitted in 70s to remain competitive a bit longer -- very noisy around the narrow lanes Oxfordshire on our lunchtime monthly run. Bit reluctant to start up onetime, but the well placed thumb of a former F1 race team manager who'd popped out of the nearby workshop soon got it going.

Here is a picture that Bill Wagenblatt took at Hockenheim in 1973, with the ex-Kiemele RSR in the middle. This is an amazing photo that captures racing in that era. This photo was also in Konradsheim's Carrera RS book. Does anyone else have any period photos, that they could share, of Eugen Kiemele racing his Viper Green RSR in 1973?

43 Year reunion with original owner

After purchasing this 2.8 RSR and working with European Porsche Expert - Kobus Cantraine, we were able to reunite the 9113600894 with its original 1973 owner - Eugen Kiemele, on his 80th Birthday. It took almost a year and a half of trying and planning to meet with him. He had not seen the car for 43 years, since he sold it at the end of the 1973 season when he upgraded to a 1974 3.0 RSR, which was also green. We hired a photographer to take pictures of the car with Eugen. Even the local press were interested and they published some articles and pictures of the reunion also. This reunion is documented in the Porsche Classic Magazine article. Get your copy to learn all the details, before the next issue comes out. Here are some pictures of that reunion at the Kiemele Museum in Siefertshofen, Germany, to whet your appetite.

During the visit at the Kiemele Museum, he had a trophy room with over 1500 trophies. Somewhere in there are the 12 trophies he won in 1973 for his 9 wins and 3 other podiums.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch? How is your German? Just found out that there is also an article on this Viper Green 2.8 RSR in the latest issue of Porsche Klassik. I thought there was only one article being done in Classic Porsche, so this is a bonus! It is entirely in German, but the pictures are spectacular, and the Porsche Factory found a couple of pictures in their archives of Eugen Kiemele racing this car in 1973. I can't share these pictures here, so go out and find this amazing magazine. It is the special edition 911 issue, and currently on the shelf in Germany. Possibly also an English version may be released in a few months. Here is what the magazine cover and first 2 pages of the article look like, so you can find it easier.

Lovely looking car. Even a set of my harnesses found a home on those seats.

Have you made any progress on finding the whereabouts of the missing history during the Touroul period..?
