Yes --all Strats and Telecaster's have serial number's as well as Martin etc. The problem with the Fender's is the number comes of with just four screws off a plate. but who knew these $375 when new would become $20,000 instruments !!! Chris

Dont know much about violin's but good old Fender put 'numbers' on there stuff and in different places, some on the back of the neck some in front some on the vibrato cover (early 53 ) some on the bridge plate ,,,,,,
So as Fender say, "in order to validate the shown number, remove the the neck and check the corresponding number on the butt heel end of the neck" Now thats a COA,,,
My mate has a 3 digit numbered and he recon's that "it wouldn't sound like it does if it wasn't what it was"
We should take a feather out of his cap and just enjoy our car's for what we know they are.

Years ago I sold a rare-ish Moto Guzzi Lemans 1 race kit to a gentleman in NY who dealt in Stradivarius. After the fact he sent me a very nice 8 x 14 bound book with "documented" Stradivarius violins photographed in color. It's still in the library.

Conspicuous by its absence are the engine and trans numbers.

Not to mention that the paint codes are the sales codes on many of them, and will not match the badge on the car.
