I think that this is a global policy and almost certainly driven from Germany. in the past couple of years it has become increasingly hard to obtain or confirm engine and gearbox numbers over the phone for a car via Porsche in Australia (even from friendly sources) unless you provide the numbers to them first
I have not tried to obtain COA's from them in recent years but I think that would be even more difficult as it is in writing.

Are you saying they'll still tell you the numbers over the phone? Bacause that's different than the U.S. policy. They won't give you numbers under any circumstances. They'll only confirm or deny the numbers you give them.

Right before I posted my question earlier with regard to COA's really being needed I had actually started to fill out the form and saw the lines for engine and transmission number. I thought it was odd that I had to fill in the number when what I was trying to ascertain was what engine and transmission the car actually left the production line with. Obviously I don't have this data and would've thought that's the point of of a COA in the first place. It makes sense now as to why it's on the COA application form.

Maybe I missed it but, if you provide the numbers of your current engine and transmission, will the COA validate those as the original numbers if in fact they are? If they are not original is this when they put in the unable to confirm blurb?

It is just a piece a paper right? Do they realize that a 3 year old with Microsoft Paint can put the numbers on a piece of paper if they're trying to deceive someone?

A bit strange, are these lawyers aware that all 72/73 RS VIN, engine and transmission numbers are already published? Fantastic source for the re-stamp business and that started long time ago.

It have been like this in Denmark for 10+ years.

You write a email to the danish Porsche importer with all the details on your car, or the car you wish to buy, the engine nr. transmission nr, vinnr... etc.

    The answer :

-Yes your car is matching with engine + transmission or engine or transmisssion only, then they list all options deliverd with the car , date, etc

    - No your car dont match.

As it has been like that for quite some time in Germany I was actually just waiting for this to happen across the globe as well...
Reuniting will be merely impossible now. As sad as it is.

What I truely would expect from that kind of paper (at that price) though is a rather complete information on the vehicle. At least I'd assume it to be 100% correct. What's the worth of a COA if it isn't?

I had to make Porsche Germany correct my COA 3 times on the transmission type. Since the trans fitted to my car at the moment is apparently non-matching, all they put on the COA was the type, no number. But they claimed 2 times that at production time my car was fitted a 911/00 transmission. That would have most probably been the only MY70 "S" in the world delivered with a 4-gear-trans from a "T" model...
After some emailing back and forth they finally sent a COA with the presumably "correct" 911/01 (still no #). Or was my car really that special? I truely would not assume my car was delivered with a 4-gear-trans but what if it actually was? Spending that much money on a piece of paper just to cause more doubt is not what I was aiming for when applying for it...

I do have to second that Sara is a really nice person as she honestly tried to help me on the issue. Though I did not get the original trans # from her as well she at least let me know that it is a 1100'ish off of the one fitted right now.
