The original Bosch lenses had what appeared to be a chrome border . the later Bosch lenses with Bosch logos had more of a satin -silver finish on the border (1980's ) . So I think PMNorris is doing a pretty good job . Bosch didn't even duplicate the original finish ,

This is true, though I can't confirm dates or anything like that. However, I have had proper Porsche/Bosch NOS lenses that had definitive differences in the silver border appearance. Some, more chrome like and some, more satin like. Makes it difficult sourcing NOS lenses and trying to match up finishes.

I've got a pretty good stash of NOS lenses. Some in dated boxes. There were absolutely differences in the silver finish over the years. But it's not consistent. While the early lenses are all of the chrome-like variety, I have lenses with both the chrome-like appearance and the more satin sliver appearance from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Just all over the place. I'm traveling now but I'll try and post some photos later.

It looks like the PVD process requires a hot application of the chrome. Wouldn't this melt the plastic lens?

PVD is the way to go. Yes, it melts aluminium and vaporises to the lens in vacuum, but it won't melt the plastic. Believe me.
