Update: I've contacted a local PVD coating company in Switzerland. They have told me that they can't coat plastic. Generally the process needs a metallic key to adhere to. So, for example, the PVD coating will only work if its chromed first, which clearly isn't practical for our headlights. The videos posted by Olivier don't show this, but presumably the carbon granules that they manufacture the plastic headlight parts from have sufficient metallic properties to allow the PVD coating to adhere to.... back to the drawing board.

Didnt Max Hoffman discover a way to plate plastic? I believe that gave him the money to open the car dealership.
I've sent a bunch of emails to various chrome platers this afternoon, all of whom claim to be able to replate classic car parts. I'll see what they come back with, but I think the PVD route is closed.

Despite the various tips and pointers in various directions, I've had plenty of responses from PVD companies and chrome platers both here in Switzerland and in the UK. So far I've not found anyone who can replace the chrome. Its clearly possible as both the originals and reproduction lenses have the chrome surrounds. Very strange. In the meantime I've ordered a headlight restoration kit to see if I can remove a few minor scratches on the original lenses and improve the shine of the plastic. However, I'm close to giving up on my chrome replacement project.
