Introducing my 73 911S and me

I thought I should introduce my car and myself.

    The car:
    1973 911S 9113300173
    Me:
    Luke

The car was delivered new to Japan (invoice date 1 Oct 1972) in light ivory with options 402 (Koni dampers), 568 (tinted windows) & 651 (electric windows)

Somewhere along the line, I think very early, it was hot rodded with:

    - RS bodywork (genuine flares, ducktail)
    - 2.7 (still the original engine)
    - Weber 46IDA's
    - 15x7/8 Fuchs
    - 10,000rpm tacho and 300kmh speedo (dated 5/73)
    - what appears to be a genuine RSR front oil cooler
    - Bilstein all around
    - Sports seats
    - Momo Prototipo

It was imported to Australia in 2007 where the original RS ducktail was sold off and replaced with a replica.

I don't have any history prior to 2007 and am stumped as to how to find out more. I think at some point it might have been yellow and the wheels had blue centres.

It's been suggested that it might be a good idea to return it to stock and I'm slowly gathering the parts to do so. However, the car is just about exactly how I'd want it if I were to build one myself, so I think it'll stay like it is for a while yet. I'm interested to hear people's opinion on this.

If anyone can suggest how to find out more about the Japanese history of the car, please let me know. I'm particularly interested in finding out when the mods were done and by whom as I think they might have been done early in the car's history.

Welcome. We need more intro threads around here. Nice looking car.

To respond to the basics from above:

If the car is exactly how you'd like it to be, I'd leave it alone.

With that said, I would never buy it from you if you were to put it up for sale as I like mostly original cars.

I think you are struggling with what you want versus what you think others may want. And that is the problem when people worry about valuation.

It's your car. Enjoy it. Or sell it and buy the one you want.

Keep us posted on your enjoyment with the car!

Start buying the important original parts; they aren't getting any cheaper. A great investment even if you decide to sell the car.

It would be interesting to hear more about the Japanese history. Good luck.

Very nice car, looks great the way it is. I agree with Frank; buy the parts you need to be able to return in to stock condition.

You're right. My cars are definitely 'driven not hidden'. This one's particularly fun to drive. So I shall continue to do as much of that as I can.

I like collecting anyway, so I will continue with the search for bits.

It would be great to find out some history though, as it would have taken some considerable effort and expense to bring it to its current form - I'd like to know when, where, who etc. Difficult when the where is Japan...

Apart from returning it to MFI, I'ld leave it alone and enjoy the drive. A much better drive at that spec than an original.
