Good man Gordon. And cheers to the wise young man who appreciates this priceless opportunity.

I disagree...with respect to what young man is going to have the understanding of parts and systems you're intimately familar with for possibly, decades..?

Unless proven wrong of course, it's hard to see a twenty-something out performing veterans in this area.

Damn once I give up my thankless corporate meat grinder job. All kidding aside - the best of luck locating the right person!

I said younger guy cause he's younger than me, but still almost 40. I not sure a 20 something could keep up. He has background and bought an east coast trans guys tools who's retiring. Believe it or not, I'm teaching him ring and pinion set up now over the phone, text, email and pictures. He's bright, enthusiastic and he gets it. I'm thrilled. It's fun too. Gordon

    Twenty somethin?

    No way.

Late thirties? Maybe. For most adults (?) there is a wisdom threshold that one crosses in life where humility kicks in and they finally understand that they still have much to learn. Unless one is a very quick study and has an unusual opportunity for full immersion in a particular craft or niche they can't possibly have enough experience and knowledge by late twenties. Then throw in the maturity aspect. I look for married guys because most (definitely not all!) have an inkling of commitment and loyalty. They typically embrace stability and are not wandering nomads with the attention span of a hummingbird.

Just a general observation but I find the majority of younger, single guys being fairly delusional about who they are. Most engineer a false identity by choosing friends and a social network that enable their character deficiencies, selfishness, and bad habits. (See: Millennial 2.0 thread.)

    Dave, thanks
CM, rules are clearly displayed,, sorry.
Back to topic, I visited 2 friends today in very similar positions as what Frank is in.
Both running "super selfish' indulgence's ( not saying Frank is) as well as great self made companies.
1 has just employed office staff and gone back on the tools with a Grumpy Head but will actually come around , other just cannot get who he needs for love or money.
In NZ we have a 3 month trial employment contract,, sounds good but the stuff ups can out way the upside.
An artisan is hard to find,, but they do exist.
    Good luck Frank
