Forum etiquette on reposting links to for sale adverts elsewhere

    Hi

I recently posted a link on the forum to a car that was advertised for sale in another on-line environment.

I have absolutely no affiliation to the car or the seller.

Subsequently, I received a PM from an annoyed forum member who claims that I ruined their chances to buy the car at a "fair price" and "full price offer" because I "exposed the car to the entire Porsche world".

My question is therefore: do forum members appreciate the cross-posting here of items (cars and parts) they think may be of interest to fellow forum members?

    Cheers

    Stephen

    Yes to cross posts.
One disgruntled member who was reluctant to "blow the dust" off his cheque book is so far out weighed by the hundreds of other members that have had the benefit of this forum in helping them with their purchases over the years.
    Keep it up.

    lol

If someone thinks that any ad that's on the interweb is super secret and their ticket to "insider trading" they're an idiot.

    Depends

When I first came here, I was just looking for a car

I had some idea of what kind of car I was looking for --- but I had no idea about particulars . . . what to look for, or even where to look

So. I started searching in the Usual Places and? . . . and posted links to the stuff that I came across --- things that I thought would be interesting. Some of the responses can be pretty helpful/informative/positive . . .

    . . . aaaaaaaand? Some not-so-much

Here was a response that I got --- from one of my earliest posts here . . .

Feel free to post your links in the "For Sale/Wanted" in their appropriate catageory of 911S, 911T, or 911E.

If you've found another category that appears to be found "wanting", please feel free to create your own "sticky".

If you're selling your own car, please feel free to "post away" in this catagory.

    cheers!

My response was pretty straight-forward. If you don't like what I have to say/show/share? --- or where I place it . . . then just move along

I like to think of Our Site as a genuine resource --- a place to come to be informed as well as entertained. I know-I know --- things can get a little messy some times . . . but some of the pictures + information + Other Stuff that turn up here are genuinely priceless --- no matter where they turn up --- or where they get posted . . . so --- I say . . .

    . . . re-post/cross-post/double-post/over-post away! --- puuuuuhleeeeeze!

    Oh. And by-the-way? . . .

    . . . I found my car . . .

There was once a time you could dig and "find" something hidden on the internet, those days are long gone. This guy is living in those old days. If you find something on the internet you want in a public forum at a good price your only answer should be "I'll take it" and hope you're first in line. There is no negotiating when thousands are seeing the same thing you are.

Oh, and "fair price" usually means "cheap price", I tell the guys looking for a fair price to come out to all the swap meets and start elbowing, but there is no elbowing from a key board. People ask how I get the deals I do, I say I hit the road, so get off your arse if you want a deal!
