Eric Sorry to hear about your Dad.
I'm glad you were able to care for him and be there for him.
I'm sure it benefited both of you.

Thanks very much for all the thoughts, notes of condolence, and prayers. As close as my dad and I were, he was also close to his 2 grandsons, who miss him dearly. He'll be remembered as having a smile and strong handshake for all he met and knew. Al was born, raised, lived and passed in the same small neighborhood in Seattle. So, the roots are deep and many knew him very well as he was heavily involved in the community over the years in making it a better place.
Dad was also a WW2 vet, a medic, served in the South Pacific and was a Bronze Star recipient. He was on the first troop crossing on the Queen Elizabeth from San Francisco to Sydney. Quite an adventure for a teenager! I hoisted a few beers with my dad in Sydney back in 1986, in a bar that he had been in in 1942(?) when he accidentally "jumped ship" (long story, and very amusing). When dad came back his overseas service he bought himself a 1940 LaSalle convertible (metallic blue with with top and interior) and had a custom made camels hair overcoat (dad and a buddy made money running craps and card games).
2 pictures below are both from summer 3 years ago...
Dad, myself and Gary Emory made a trip to Los Angeles to pick up a very rare 1968 911L (rally spec) that dad had originally ordered new for a customer. There's a pic on the first page of this thread that shows dad with his hand on the same car back in 1968.
The other pic was from that same summer when we took dad back to Europe for one more trip. Pic was taken in Amsterdam in front of the "Nightwatch". Both show dad very vibrant and healthy in his later years and enjoying life. We should all be so lucky...
The early picture was taken in Australia towards the end of the war.
I'll be closed for a while as we re-group as a family, and thanks for indulging my pride as a son of a member of the greatest generation.
Thanks again,
Eric
