What's with closing threads after a part is sold?

Since when did this become SOP? It eliminates questions, inquiries, and discussion in the future which can be incredibly valuable in regard to unusual or rare parts.

It seems to me that classified ads are for the overall benefit of the community and have lasting value beyond a temporary 2-party transaction. Why does a seller get to strip an important privilege from the community? When a seller deletes the asking price he is already exercising censorship. I hardly doubt he needs to exert additional measures beyond that.

    Thoughts?

Agree. Seller should not even be allowed to remove the original asking price. That should be an easy programming change.

    Based on what?

I agree with both of you. It's ridiculous that seller's delete prices after an item sells. But trying to prefent that withing the confines of vBulletin is a challenge unless you want to prevent all editing of posts for every user.

If someone asks me to close a thread, I oblige...

Also, based on the bump rule, to the best of my ability...
