    1973 911 rst

    Hi there,,,

    New to the forum.
My father used to own a 1973 911 rst in 1978 and sold it in 1981.
Apparently very rare in right hand drive and in Glacier blue.
    Registration was PMC 134L

would be great if anybody could give me anymore info on the car of its where abouts etc that would be great.
My father has recently suffered a stroke and has mild dementia,so trying to find it before he is to ill to remember.

    Many thanks James

    RHD RS in Glacier Blue

A car like that? . . . the best place to start looking would be Konradsheim

How many Glacier Blue + RHD + s/r RSs could there've been?

You might also trying pinging Brian (fryardds). I believe that he's PCA's RS Guy . If he doesn't have a record of such a car, then he might know of someone who does

    HtH . . .

    . . . and welcome aboard!

James, i presume you've contacted Autofarm already (http://www.autofarm.co.uk)
They've probably sold more RS' than anyone (in the world, maybe ?!)

there were only 2 UK delivered RS's in Glacier Blue, both of which were Touring (M472) cars.

One was 9113600426, which I believe was a London Motor show car and registered RLX 5L...(at least at one stage of its life). Probably not the one your family had given the registration but I am not sure. I have a name of someone well known in UK Porsche circles who I believe owned this car in the 1990's (and may still) but apart from that I don't have any information.

The other glacier blue car was 9113600522. I don't have any record of this car coming to sale or other public notice in the past 25 or more years (not to say it did not just I did not see it)
The photo you have shows a sunroof car. 0522 had both a sunroof and electric windows and had black leather seats with houndtooth inserts. That is is fairly distinctive. However it also had a limited slip diff (cant see on the photo obviously) and a rear wiper and no rear spoiler - both of which do not match with your picture. However by 1978 the rear deck could have been changed to one with a ducktail and, if that happened, the rear wiper may have been lost as a result of the change. It also had so called "comfort seats" not sports seats.
The other Glacier car, 0426 also had a sunroof and electric windows but also a rear collision bar (not in this photo that I can make out but maybe there) and had a more usual black leatherette and corduroy sports seat interior.
The other 14 glacier blue cars were all LHD.

So the question back to you is do you remember the interior - was it normal seats but in black leather and houndtooth or sports seats in black leatherette and cord?
Also did it have a rear collision bar or not and did your father add a ducktail to it while he owned it?

The answers to those questions should determine which car it was?

I thought the registration number rang a bell.
PMC134L was (I don't think from new) owned by Phil Coulter who was a friend of, and supporter of, Irish rally ace Cathal Curley. He was also a rally driver but not in the same league. In late 1976 / early 77 Curley retired from rallying for a short time but was tempted back in to the 1977 Donegal rally. He was carless so Coulter loaned him PMC143L, a glacier blue RS, for the rally. Unfortunately he DNF due to a crash so your father must have bought it soon after that.

I have some photos of the car at the event - here are what i can find.
first two are Curley at the 77 Donegal - the color one is the start of the crash - see the navigator (Drexel Gillespie) ducking for cover

the next one is Phil Coulter at Donegal in 1976. None of thee help with the tail or seats but I may have more. the fact that it was used as a rally car shits the balance to the car with the LSD though......

The Credit for me knowing this needs to be attrbuteed to the late Mark Copeland who has it recorded in his great book on Porsches in Irish rallying. RIP Mark

another couple of photos from Mark Copeland's great book.

James, Your father is not Phil Coulter by any chance? The Copeland book states that the car was repaired after the 77 Donegal and went back to being Coulter's daily drive in London. I was wondering for how long??

These photos from the Copeland book are from the 1975 Circuit of Ireland where Coulter "00'd" with Drexel Gillespie. The book also states that this combination came a "remarkable" 6th overall in the 1975 Cork 20 international rally.

The first one shows the duck tail was on the car at that stage.

That's great info and pictures. We established James dad's car was 426 over on DDK. I have in my notes from 1995 that the car was resident in the IOM which would explain why it is not registered with the DVLA in the UK (and still isn't, so the assumption is that it is still in the IOM).

I'm sure James and his dad will be thrilled to see what you have dug up. Great stuff!

Fantastic job Hugh, you da man!

There is a little more to this story that I'm sure James won't mind me sharing with the Early S reg guys. One of the DDK members, who owns an RS, has generously offered to give Jame's dad a special ride. Check it out.

    Great story, James!
And excellent archival digging by Hugh.

Threads like these embody many of the things I enjoy about this registry.

Edit: Link to DDK thread on car. Very nice
