Becker Frankfurt squealing - help needed

It used to work fine -- now, no sound and this weird squealing:

    Any advice?

I've earned two degrees in electrical engineering but that was 30 years ago and I remember very little about heterodyne receivers and amplifiers.

The only thing I can think of that you might repair at home is that the antenna is no longer connected. Either the coaxial cable was pulled out of the radio or it's been damaged.
    • The center conductor should have zero ohms to the antenna mast and infinite (or at least really high) resistance to the car's body.
    • The outer conductor should have infinite (or at least really high) resistance to the antenna mast and sero ohms to the car's body.

If it's not an antenna problem you'll probably have to send it to a pro anyway.

By the way, that's a Blaupunkt Frankfurt. The comparable Becker radio was the Europa.

The squealing is a high frequency feedback. Bad antenna connections usually result in static/crackling sounds. Could be in the RF or IF sections. Could be filter caps that are shot and allowing the noise feedback.

Sounds like a trip to the bench to me.

You should try to contact Stephan at SW Stereo. He's not far from you in NJ. I sent him my 64/65 Essen radio and he had no problem fixing it. I would strongly suggest calling him rather than email, that works best. He's very talented with old Blaupunkts
