Thread: Why is my sport seat too big for a 1973 base?

Why is my sport seat too big for a 1973 base?

    Guys,

I have 6 sport seat bases (all taken from cars that I parted out-so I am sure that they are genuine Porsche). All have a dimension of 400 mm, left to right, where the seat to base mounting bolts (8 mm by 1.25) attach.

I have 5 sport seats where the mounting 'feet'/lugs are 400 mm left to right on center. So the seats mount to the base very nicely. No problem so far.

However..... the sixth sport seat has a left to right mounting dimension of 410 mm. Needless to say, the 6th seat will not bolt up to the base. I purchased the seat on Ebay a number of years ago.

    WTF

    1. Was there a larger left to right dimension seat made for a different year base, or is this an aftermarket sport seat made for another brand car?

    2. The reclining/seat back black knobs look pretty close to all the other Recaro knobs that I have collected over the years. The front to back dimension is spot on, stock sport seat dimension.

    3. I would attach pictures if I could figure out how to take a picture with my flip phone and then attach it, but I'm old.

    Thanks

    Caproader

None of this made sense until you mentioned that you use a flip phone.

Didn't Porsche Seats have more than one hole in the tabs for height adjustment? Tabs look handmade to me.

I’ll bet if you take the bottom apart you’ll find some hi jinx has happened.

@uai: Porsche seats (not the rail model) but for the big console had three holes original for high adjustment.

you can also see on the last picture that the high adjustments are too far out. sure something made.not bad, you can cut off the adjustments and new welding, seat must be redone anyway ;-)

    regards

'74 and later cars use a different mounting system which could account for the width issue.

Michael Eberhart/Vintage Seats supplied necessary bases to fit the later cars. Here is a pair of their seats on these bases.
These are from a members 3.2 Carrera.
