2 questions for front trunk specialists

Hi, I'm starting to apply the paint in the front trunk, and have two questions for the specialists!

-Are the snap fixtures (those that hold up the carpet) installed before painting? i.e. are they also painted over?
-After the base paint, should I apply a light coat of clear coat? All the trunks I see are dull, like there's no clear coat...

Car is a 72 targa, in metallic silver gray (925)

Thank for any help, I've been digging through photos all weekend, but these details are hard to spot!

Mine was never restored in trunk and it has no clear coat.
    Is it metallic paint only?
Usually its just a matt light overspray in body color.

    Snaps mounted afterwards, no paint.

You might do a search on this board, as wheel wells, engine area, shock towers etc had their details.

I was thinking the same thing. Karim in regards to no clear coat, is it possible over time the light clear would have faded??

Wow, I was just going to say how great that trunk looked! Thanks for the picture and congratulations! now I have to ask about the door

I'm going the route of painting the door jambs and then installing the front fenders as that appears to be what the factory did. It also makes good sense in my case because my garage space is limited and this will allow me to start installing things (like brake lines, cables, etc) before taking the jump to the painter's (less risk to damage the finished paint). To the point, the descriptions I read everywhere are that ..."the fender bolts are painted body color and undisturbed with the exception of those near the doors that were loosened to allow inserting the welting between the cowl and the fender". If the snap fixtures were placed later, then those bolts would also be disturbed, right?

Concerning the clear coat, I would doubt that the factory would bother to apply it to where it wasn't needed, but maybe a light coat to protect the paint?

For the door, I thought the black went all the way around, am I wrong?

The snap fixture bolts were not painted. Yes, the black goes all around the door.

Where do we got the info that a clear coat was applied?
I dont recall reading it anywhere.
Moito might did this to his car but cant find proof the factory did.
Metallic paint was expensive and as we know the coat went yellow over time.
All I know front trunks were sprayed lightly in body color matt, like mine.

    Proofs pls? edmayo?

not the colour went yellow its the clearcoat that was not much UV resisstant..
...and i actually even confirmed your observation of matt trunk.
and of course they did not apply a full layer of clear in the trunk not even full layer of base.
have a look at the factory vids you can find on youtube that show the painting of the trunk.
