    FS @BaT: '72 'T' Coupe . . .

    . . . Aubergine

    VIN = 9112100250
    Eng# = 6120471
    Trans# = (7)321165

    '. . . This Porsche 911T is an early 1972 coupe in Aubergine over black that benefits from a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment. The car was sold new in California and has remained there for the majority of its life, including under current ownership since 2015. The recent refurbishment included rebuilds of the engine, transmission, and suspension, along with new paint, trim, and interior pieces. A July 2017 PPI resulted in over $10k in followup steering, exhaust, and tuning work as described below. This longhood 911 is now being offered by BaT regular Wob on behalf of its current owner with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, as well as a clean California title.

    The cosmetic refresh was reportedly performed to a high standard. Sheet metal is described as straight throughout, and the car was stripped of all trim, doors, and hardware for a single-stage repaint in its original Aubergine. The resulting finish is said to present well and is shown up close in a number of photos below. A 911S trim package has been fitted since new according to the seller.

    A black anodized grille was fitted in the deck lid, while remaining brightwork was polished or re-plated. Exterior lighting includes Euro headlights and period Bosch fog lamps, all of which feature new lenses. Refinished black and silver Fuchs show late-1970 date stamps and are mounted with 15″ Goodyear rubber from 2014. Badging and hardware are detailed in a number of close-up photos, including a new sideview mirror and wiper arms.

    Period Recaro front seats include Pepita houndstooth inserts, with the rears upholstered to match. The original dash was restored and the factory steering wheel was re-wrapped in leather. The headliner, door panels and map pockets remain original and in good condition per the seller. Floor panels are said to remain original under correct carpeting and period-style mats. Retractable seat belts are described as slow to retract and notchy on the driver’s side. Staining on the passenger seat cushion is largely unnoticeable in person according to the seller.

    Instrumentation is housed in a body-colored dash and includes a 5-digit odometer that shows 35k miles after rolling over once per the owner. Electrical work included tracing and grounding of all wires as well as installation of new batteries, and all lights and accessories are said to function. A period Blaupunkt radio remains mounted as well as stock switchgear, some of which shows signs of age.

    The flat-six engine was rebuilt on its factory case with displacement increased to 2.7 liters. Factory mechanical fuel injection was replaced with 40mm PMO carburetors. All CAD-plated hardware items and engine bay fasteners were replaced or refreshed. Approximately 10k miles have been driven since installation of the engine, which has used only Swepco 15-40 motor oil since the rebuild. The recent PPI reportedly yielded compression numbers between 150-160 psi across all six cylinders.

    Recent exhaust work included installation of new SSI stainless steel heat exchangers and a Dankse muffler. The factory 915 5-speed manual transmission is said to shift well thanks to a recent rebuild and new shift bushings. Further items addressed during a recent $10k service included new tie rods, wheel bearings, sway bar hardware, seals, engine tuning, and more as shown in the invoices below.

    Underbody photos show the condition of the unibody and suspension parts, the former repainted with the rest of the car and the latter powder coated or re-plated. Suspension is set at Euro ride height on fresh Bilstein and Boge dampers. A new strut brace, sway bars, and bushings have also been installed. Braking is from cross-drilled rotors and rebuilt calipers at all four corners, along with new pads, hoses, and hard lines throughout. The seller notes light oil seepage at the seam between the engine and transmission as well as on the bottom of the oil tank.

    The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows a build date of July 1971 and confirms the original Aubergine color along with fitment of 15″ wheels. The seller notes that the 911S trim package is not listed but was reportedly present at the time of the original purchase.

    Records are provided from the 2015 work to present and include invoices from the recent post-PPI repairs. The sale includes factory jacking tools and a spare Fuchs mounted with a matching Goodyear . . .

    I love this color because it changes with the light. At high Noon it looks plum but in the early morning or at dusk it looks darker like eggplant. Here is mine in the early morning.
