    Original Part Availability & Pricing

I originally posted this on a for sale item that I was surprised hadn't sold at what was a very attractive price. I'm reposting here for wider readership.

Now that the Early 911 euphoria has passed, pricing on many original parts, including lighting, have fallen a bit. Just Econ 101, supply and demand. But it’s more complicated than that in a contradictory sort of way. Demand is off a bit, but on the other side of the coin, without much visibility, supply is off a lot. I’m finding good original lighting bits harder and harder to find. The supply after all is finite.

So don’t take it for granted that original parts you need down the road will be easy to find. If you have a restoration underway I suggest obtaining parts for it as early as possible.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Cheers,
    John

With car prices down the mental ascension it takes to pull the trigger on expensive parts is much greater. My opinion is that guys will continue looking for the parts they need but the hope is that they'll be able to steal it... oops... get a great deal.
It's not a ridiculous business plan but obviously there's risk.

Meanwhile the people with the rare parts are sitting back enjoying the show. I sold an NOS 356 pulley the other day for an obscene amount because a guy needed it. Now.
