    1972 full size spare?

What were the full size spare options in 1972?

I'm a bit puzzled by the question. It would have been the same wheel that was on the car.

Full size spare was not an option.
normal Tank -> full size spare
big tank -> flat spare - > no optional full spare- wouldn't fit in anyway

My thought was that 1972 was the first year Porsche offered a choice of "Alloy" wheels on the cars. (late 1966 you option up to Fuch from Steel wheels)
Base model T and E came stock with the cookie cutter's and clients could 'option up' to Fuch.
I am sure you could have saved about $5 back then and asked for a cookie as a spare for your 4 Fuch but I doubt anyone would have been so crass.
As previously mentioned by Dirk if you opted for the larger fuel tank ( I dont know what that option number is ) a full size spare would not fit and you would have been fitted with the space saver style spare wheel of steel.

my 1972T has a steel 15x5.5" wheel as the spare.

Would it be correct? Or from another car?

Previous owner had cookie cutters on the car from 1974... so they were totally wrong.

But the 5.5x15 steel spare might very well be correct.

my spare is dated 1970. Would that be typical date used in a 1970-1973 911T for a spare? Or are the dates matching the production date of the car?

No, it wouldn't be correct. If your 72 came with steel wheels, they would have been 6 X 15 and the spare would have been the same size. 72 was the only year where a 6" wide steel wheel was offered, and it was the base wheel. 73 911s had a 6 X 15 cookie cutter as the base wheel and it would have come with 5 of them. 74 911s came with a space saver on a
5 1/2 X 15 steel wheel as the spare. The first year that used a different wheel for a spare. 73 911RS and RSRs excluded.

    Ciao

    Jim
