I'm sure that was during the process. No carb crossbar, wrong coil, wrong volt reg, O/P sender not wired, oil temp sender incorrect, wrong spark plug connectors, breather hose not connected, fuel pump is butt ugly but the overly shiny "zinc" offsets it, etc.Originally Posted by StephenAcworth

However, still very cool to see a 901 on the road again.
That photo in the web thread must be "during process." When we saw the car in the Museum shop (my photo) all was in place with green decal coil, cleaned up pump with Bendix decal, etc, etc. Really didn't notice the sound pad, but suspect it was not correct. My pet peeve is the use of modern Wurth hose clamps and the 90 degree plug connectors...they did have the "tall" boots on the distributor. Nit picking...their work has come a loooong way.

Press packet or not Stephen, engine probably now looks different, as seen in post No.6 above.
I can understand Porsche to restore this car, even it might has lost some soul.
After all, they use it as a promotional tool and want to show it in driveable condition.
Previously they only had the slate grey sprayed (not original color) 65 911 with red interior, being an older restauration from the early nineties and not much accurate.
We also should not forget Porsche has a huge collection of Porsche cars, not open to the public. They might not own a 901 prototyp, neither the 1970 Le Mans winner 917 but dozens of unique cars, one-offs, prototype for both racing and street cars. What you see at their museum is about 1/10th-ish of what they have in their warehouse.
I check the 901 on Dec 23rd, ill stop by at Stuttgart.

Hi Karim... I don't disagree... I would like the opportunity to see the car too...
I hope that with all the documentary evidence Porsche have of the car as they bought it and as they took it apart and rebuilt it, they would produce some kind of publication (web or physical) of the process...
I love the archeological aspects of the process, and pore over people's build threads... and for something as momentous as this for the Porsche museum in historical terms, I really hope they do provide more than the dozen or so photos I found in the press pack as they don't tell the full story at all!!!

there will be a book about the car and the resto..+ an episode of the RTL II tv magazine GRIP with the car and of the trödeltrupp guys on feb the 4th 6pm CET.

Will this be like the book they give to owners who use classic reso service or more in depth? At Essen they showed me example of one of those presentation books from somone's reso
