Well since this has turned to mechanics I will add that Frank and Ed Mayo would be my go to guys if I was closer, they have both been very generous with their time and knowledge. I am lucky in that I have a factory trained Porsche master tech living in my town who I have known since he worked on my 914 when he was 16yrs. old. (now 55). He recently left a high end restoration shop (worked on several of Dave McNeils cars while there) but prior was #1 mechanic at Loeber Porsche (13yrs.). For now he is working out of his house and rebuilt my 2.2 Targa engine, transmission and redid the suspension on both my 911 & 914-6. Very knowledgeable and meticulous and I think a little burned out on the Porsche dealership venue, hoping the Loeber's become a Porsche Classic Partner. If his kids were older I think he would be interested in Frank's job opportunity.

Well, the movie is finished and I couldn't be happier. Esposito did a hell of a job. They gave me an estimate up front and held to it even though the car needed a lot of metal work. Gaps are great and the golf blau is gorgeous.

Stay tuned for the sequel as the car just rolled down the street to TLG for assembly.

I saw your car recently when visiting John, it is absolutely beautiful, typical Espo work. I can’t wait to see it finished.

I saw this car in progress, watched it being painted, and have seen the end result of the body and paint. In my opinion it is stunning, as is the recent 000 cover 911 painted by John's shop, and a number of other cars I have seen there in progress. I currently have my wife's '72 911 at John's for extensive body and full paint. I'm excited about the project, and obviously have the utmost confidence in their craftsmanship.

I missed this thread the first time around, but on the InterWebs, nothing ever dies.

I project-managed a 70S restoration back to its original color a couple years ago and never considered any shop other than Esposito's.

A key reason is that the end result is John's focus. If I found a flaw or something that wasn't quite 100%, John's attitude was -- first, 'thank you for pointing that out,' and then, 'we'll make it right.' It's atypical for a craftsman to be egoless, but that's exactly how John is to work with.

I suspect you've never tried TLG and I KNOW you've never used my shop.

Nothing personal but I would say you simply made the wrong choice or had unreasonable expectations.

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

    'Hey, John . . .

. . . Just wanted to thank you and your crew for the great job you Guys did fixing my car. I know it was only a small repair, but there's no place else --- and nobody else . . . that can do a metal finish with a perfect paint-match, like you Guys

    I really appreciate it!

And just so you know . . .

. . . you'll have my business for as long as you have your store

    Thanks, again
