    Grundy Insurance decision

I have used American Collectors since 2007, as they are the go-to insurer for USAA's classic car owners. Their premiums have always been competitive with others (Hagerty, Grundy, etc).
However, this year, Grundy is $100 less for similar coverage, and I am inclined to move over to Grundy, although I know nothing about the company and its service with the ESR group.
Can you share your experience-good or bad-with Grundy? Thanks!

Grundy is a broker, my insurance through them is written with American, same as yours. When I went through USAA, American would not write me due to two teenagers living at home. Go figure.

My current insurance is through USAA. At my Uncle's insistence, I contacted American in an effort to obtain collector's car insurance. American would not insure me because I don't have a fire suppression system in my garage. I argued (lightly) that I have several fire extinguishers in the garage as well as the local Fire Department about 2 blocks away.
No good....they wouldn't cover me. Frustrating.

I wouldn't use the term "go-to" with respect to American Collectors and USAA. That implies a preference over any other option. They are the only option offered through USAA and have an alliance with USAA. When I was looking to insure my car, American Collectors was much higher than Hagerty, who I am with. I have my other cars (and home) with USAA and have been with them for over 30 years, but that didn't seem to help. I don't know if Hagerty is better or worse than any other insurer (broker or otherwise) and probably won't know if it is good enough until I need it. But, price was fine. Don't recall whether I tried Grundy.

By the way, I'm not saying anything bad about American Collectors, just that they were not the cheapest, for me, with equivalent coverage that Hagerty offered.

It's funny how we develop an attachment to something as unemotional as insurance providers. I also had American Collectors, for about 20 years, and finally decided to change when they weren't being reasonable on agreed value. I'd never filed a claim, but still felt some kind of weird loyalty to them. Finally switched to Heacock based on price, being easy to deal with, and having a good recommendation on this site from someone who actually had a loss claim with them. At the end of the day how they handle a claim is all that matters.

being in the business, USAA does have a very loyal, primarily, direct military clientele. They do a nice job from my experience. Like a lot of carriers out there, they are good on some lines of coverage, not so good on others at times. Don't be afraid to shop it, there is another "military" option out there "Armed Forces Insurance" that has/will compete directly against USAA, that is the client base they are going after so they will have to be somewhat aggressive in taking that USAA customer away from them, and conversely, USAA will have to fight hard to keep them

    Heacock; bar none.

Ford and his staff are racers, collectors, and genuine enthusiasts. Unbelievable group of people that personally handle everything. We see them at vintage races and shows throughout the year and I consider them friends.

I had a sizable loss several years ago that had some controversial elements to it and they took care of us with brilliant fashion.

I, also, believe that an Insurance Company earns their stripes in the manner in which they handle claims. I had a pretty large claim with Hagerty Ins a few years ago and it was handled extremely efficiently and 100% to my satisfaction. McKeel Hagerty is also "Enthusiast" and a 67 911S owner since his High School days. He and his company support many events all over the country. Who among us hasn't used their "free" Valuation Tools and we have all benefited from their influence with lawmakers. I have been a satisfied client for decades.

    Regards

    Jim
