    Help with 911S VIN

    Looking at a 1968 911

    here is the VIN

    11835XXX

Is this a 911S? i am confused because it would have to have been imported. Dont have and engine number yet.

    Any help would be appreciated.

According to the identification site I always go to (elferhelfer.de), this should be a 1968 911 Coupe, not an 'S'.
As in "11" identifies "model 911", 8 referring to "1968 model year, not always production year", "3" referring to a "coupe", whereas a "0" there would have made it an "S coupe".
That site also states that if the last 4 digits start with a "5" (like in your case, It would be a chassis produced at Karmann.

    Cheers, Patrick

btw, that site also indicates that the engine number for this model should be between "3080001" and "3080655".

If it is, it is more likely (but not guaranteed) that the engine is original to the car. Only a certificate of Originality (CoA) by Porsche can confirm that.

    Patrick is correct
11835xxx is a USA 911 Coupe made by Karmann

HOWEVER all the ones i have data on have engine numbers in the 328xxxx or 338xxxx as confirmed in numerous cases by Kardexes
    transmissions are 308xxxx 902/0, 318xxxx 905/00, and 328xxxx 902/1

    Sent you a PM. My former 1969 S coupe was 119300141, 11=911 9=1969 3=S 0=coupe 0141=sequence.

the 68 numbering sequences were quite different and the S's had a 0 rather than a 3 identifying them as in later years - makes it confusing at first glance. Also the Karmann ones are not easily identified as they have the 5 in the fifth digit - a digit used only for serial number on all other cars in 1968
here is the appropriate page in the spec book
