My Dad died a few days before Mr. Gurney. Tuff, kind men from that generation. I aspire to be like them. These are a couple pictures I have in my office that Mr. Gurney was nice enough to sign for me.

All American Racer for sure, role model for anyone paying attention. In the course of human history, there are individuals who stand out for one reason or another. In Dan Gurney’s case it was for doing all the right things with hard work and discipline. Re-reading his life’s accomplishments and hearing new stories of his successful life only highlight a gentleman doing his job in a sport he loved and helped to make it famous.

I never met Dan but in my research I did have a chance to talk with his wife Evi. She told me Huschke had introduced her to Dan while she was working at Porsche. One evening, Huschke had asked Dan if he wouldn't mind giving Evi a ride into the city. It was a summer evening in 1962 the day before the Solitude race. In July 1969 she and Dan were married and together ever since.
