My wife and I were just cruising along when the car started to hesitate just a bit, I pushed the accelerator pedal down and it stuck wide open. I shut off the ignition and coasted over to the side of the road. I tried to free up the frozen carb but couldn't so called the tow truck. Got home and removed the LH carb and found part of the auxillary venturi stuck in the butterfly which jammed the carb wide open. The other part of the venturi is nowhere to be found. SH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I guess the thing broke from vibration over many years. These are Dellorto carbs and have been the sweetest running carbs I have ever used on a 356/912 engine, until now.

I once melted a Dellorto venturi into the head during a small carb fire(car was still running!).

Does the old adage of "rather be lucky than good" apply here? Of course being lucky and good is even better!!!

I think Jim is both "lucky and good"

Congratulations, Jim...I use Dellorto/36's on my -65SC...and I absolutely love them too (stored the original Solexes)...I saw your post and I was thinking...Oh'man, do I need to worry about this now?...How common is this?...I have never even heard of the venturi braking off....but then again I have never won the lottery either....Thanks.../ Lars...
