It’s also got an incorrect later single bolt fan strap so along with the engine number stamping I’m thinking ‘replacement engine’.

RS#1551(sold)

73E (home after 25 years) and sold again
Early S reg. #681
For some reason Sonauto had to stamp the type in addition to to the vin number (I think between 71-72 and 74) due to french car regulation so this is correct. My 74 carrera has the same as all Sonauto's of this era. However, I would not say the same for the engine number....
Cheers

Auction Description:
This stunning matching numbers 911 2.7 RS, an M472 Touring model, was delivered new via the French importer Sonauto to its first owner, an industrialist based in Avignon, in January of 1973. The RS was delivered in the specification that it wears today, as referenced in factory documentation and also by the book “Carrera RS” by Gruber and Konradsheim. As one of the first 500 examples of the model, this early car was built with thinner gauge steel body panels to further reduce weight.
During the 1970s ownership passed to a professor of medicine, and in the early 1980s to Lucien François Bernard, co-founder and former president of the French Porsche 356 Club. The RS returned to Sonauto in 1990, and was then sold to Jean Claude Miloé, a well known gentleman driver and Porsche collector. Always a road car, this wonderful example has taken part over the years in several regularity rallies such as the Coupe des Alpes, Maroc Classis, and the Tour de Auto.
Pleasingly the RS offered with full service history from specialists such as Louis Meznarie, Crubilé Sport and dealers Sonauto and Ravé. For more significant works the car was entrusted only to the Porsche factory, with the most recent restoration having been completed in December 2015 by Porsche Ravé. We understand a full file of invoices will be supplied with the car.
Finished in Light Yellow with green Carrera decals, this is an exceptionally well presented example with excellent history, and certainly the finest example of the model that we have seen for a very long time.

Why is this separate the RS for sales thread? Having all in one tread helps a bit
Does not look correct !
Searching for information by VIN on the RS Cars for Sale thread is a biiiiiiiiiiit of a challenge --- especially when it's coming-up on 200 pages. Trying sort out something about a particular car when there are dozens of cars being discussed, hither-and-yon is frustrating for me
I've griped about this almost from the get-go --- from one of my 1st posts . . .
So? --- I'll start a thread about ONE car . . . always including the VIN, maybe referencing some previous appearances . . . if I can dig 'em out. Then the next time the car shows-up, I can just add to thread. Frankly, seeing the procession of appearances + sales + re-appearances of some cars points up something not only about flavor of the cars themselves but the changing tastes of their owners
Also --- no VIN? . . .
. . . = no post
I think of our site as a resource --- and not just for other people's cars. And VINs make it easy to sort information. So, as long as there's a VIN on display/being discussed, doesn't it make sense to parse any details about ONE car on ONE thread, instead of throwing dozens of cars together on a 200-pager?
Because the day will come when my car will leave my garage. And I fully expect any prospective Next Owner to come here, punch-in the car's VIN --- and see what's here . . .
http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...Ten-Fifty-nine
. . . start to finish, from purchase to sale, and on and on and on
Sticky-schmicky --- gimme a good/solid thread I can sink my teeth into
