    Hi Steve,

the list is based on several German and US workshop manuals, Gruber/Konradsheimer, spare parts books and few talks to a QM manager that retired 1990.

    Hi Dirk

Good compilation list of sources. Interesting.

Maybe a detail but I do still think the horn line should show it was the Bosch Fanfaren ( banjo) product being superseded by Stritone (and for some the very similar Klaxon) in Dec of 72. List in post currently doesn't mention Bosch Fanfare but there is much evidence of Bosch fanfaren distinctive banjo being the horn used prior to the change to stritone (and klaxon) around end of the calendar year. Maybe list is actually saying that just the point is lost in the punchy text comment.

It maybe a statement of the obvious but some things listed would have phased in over time as supplies lineside and things in supply chain got consumed... Rather than a binary change date. Also sequence of assembly not always exactly vin. One example of this being being "single lockers" which according to the workshop manual supplement were updated to double pawl system from around 16 October for all markets but from what I've seen of unmolested cars were used in (ROW examples) assembled later in calendar year 72. Msybe it was more tightly controlled on what used in some markets where safety was under scrutiny.

    Great thread.

    Hi Steve,

I checked what you mentioned on the horns change.
You are right. I corrected my list.

    Cheers Dirk,

    A here are some links...

First about switch of to Bosch Sport Fanfaren Banjo to the different shape stritone/s

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...light=Fanfaren

And second on use of Mixo vs Klaxon which are superficially similar Stritones -- latter seem more commonly found on RS except the very earliest examples made up to end of calandar 72 which used Bosch banjo -- so may not be so relevant to your list about US market models.

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...=Bosch+fanfare

It is documented that from December 11 1972 the RS began to receive Klaxon dual horns. While the exact timing would have depended on production number and the complexities of two step initial assembly - weighing- conversion order if appropriate for homologation we know from the tech spec book that up to vin 319 was made in calendar 72. My vin 911 360 02xx car early December build has Bosch Fanfare (banjo).

There were some changes to the handbrake symbol and warning light position on a dash dial for clarity of use which I've used in the past to corroborate a detail of a build date but don't have it off hand. Also the rare earliest RS distributor and several associated parts in system changed. These details are documented somewhere here but again may not be not relevant to USA.

Also the three fan straps black double bolt , zinc double bolt and yellow single bolt was in this 72>73 period was discussed here
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ight=Oor+Wulli

... and of course the the KG >AG fan decal change

    best

    Steve

Just realized that my August 71 buildt US 911TE had no emblems on the facia.
The heater control and handbrake lever unit seems to been replaced at some point.

The 12/71 manual shows the seat belt warning system, script on the heater control and lever knobs.
I do not have my 8/71 manual handy.
Does the 8/71 manual also show?

Back from skiing I finally found an early (7/71) MY 72 US manual.

The pictures already show the coarser vinyl and some other 72 entires.

But either emblems on the facia for headlight and flash light switch nor the script on the heater control and hand throttle/defrost levers.

    12/71 652 T targa and 11/71 623 T Coupe came without emblems and scripts.

Am I right, if I guess the emblems and scripts were introduced with the seat belt warning in 1/72?

Manuals of those years were never up to date and show often older pics, even cars had new Equipment.

Not a good source for reference and I would never use them for proof, even one feels they should be used for.

    Karim,

yes the manual is not a good reference. But a valid one to show the change within the MY.

May you show us a paper like above for MY72 or a later one round about December 71?

    Unfortunately dont have 70-72.
I beleive best sources are the Rundschreiben R.S., where the factory announced those changes.
I have a few but none from 72/73.

While this below writes nothing new, I post it for the records.
