    Hi Eric,

Great to hear from you and thank you for the kind words. Your expertise helped me tremendously when I first joined the Porsche community over a decade ago. I always appreciated the great communication and your willingness to share your knowledge.

    Hi LiveFromNY,

I would say let's blame the dealers on the 74-77 tool kits you have, they weren't very careful putting the correct tool bags in the cars back in the days I have seen black bags that were used for 76 models before, and maybe some gray bags may ended up in earlier cars also. But I am pretty confident that the black Jusin bag came before the gray Jusin bag.

The tool kit pictured is from a 1974 model, previous owner took it out of the car in the late 70's and the car was totaled shortly after. You wont normally see a 19/22 box wrench in a gray bag tool kit, that's the clue for the time period it applies to.

    Best,
    Cem

Interesting, Cem. Thanks for the info.

My experience and opinion on the grey bag kits is based primarily on two 1974 cars that I own.

The first is the Car and Driver 50th anniversary car.

    https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...9741977-page-5

30k documented miles, one owner before me, and a grey toolkit in the trunk.

The second is a 1974 Carrera that I bought from the widow of the original owner. 88k miles, completely original, and always serviced at Jones Autowerks in San Antonio. Came to me with a box that the owner had tucked away with the original paperwork, window sticker, dealer plate frame, air compressor, and like new toolkit in a grey bag.

I'm also a data hound so I'd be remiss if I didn't include that aspect. Google image search is a very useful tool to look across the internet and do some crowdsourcing and there's some interesting data out there showing that more people identify the grey kits with 74 cars than with 76 cars. It'd bore you to tears so I won't post it unless it's requested.

Anyway, based on the two cars I mentioned, I'm confidant that at least some of the '74 cars were delivered with the grey toolkits. And I have similar stories about the black bag kits and 76/77 cars. But who knows for sure? I'm certainly not claming to be an authority from on high.

I do agree with you on one thing, I'm always happy to blame the dealers!!
