    HELP from the Scholars -- Correct Fuel Pump for Early '68?

    I need to consult the oracles of Porsche...

    the electrical panel with my car had a Bendix fuel pump with 12mm intake/exhaust.

    the parts manual shows 901.608.103.00 as a "Hardi" fuel pump.

    Which is correct for an August 1967 build date?

    My friends early '68 has a Bendix pump .

    to the extent that it matters, the "11/67" version of the Parts Manual says "Hardi," too. But given the condition of the car (especially the electrical panel) when I bought it, there would seem to be no reason for the prior owner(s) to have substituted the Bendix that was mounted to the panel. The car had a 8/67 build-date.

    Anyone else with something to offer would be much appreciated.

    I believe that '68s came with both pump types. If your engine electric plate is original, the bendix pump mounted with 2 bolts, the Hardi bracket 3.

    Ahh, trick question! The factory is CLOSED in August!

    Seriously if you have any doubt get the Hardi. . . .people who judge 68s EXPECT to see a Hardi. If you have a 67 and I see a Bendix, well now we're into the above question. Sometimes the right thing is what people THINK is right vs. the unknowable cutover point when Hans and Franz stopped using the old parts and started using the new ones.

    And you can actually BUY a Hardi. . . unlike the unobtainium Bendix.

    I love the interaction with scholars. 304065 has precisely described the bane of my "very early '68" project.

    my car was/is #0001 for 1968, and LOTS of the pieces have proven to be taken from the remaining inventory of '67 parts. the 68s manufactured for awhile later got more and more consistent in details, until they changed stuff mid-year. so, the "11/67" version of the Parts Manual would likely show a Hardi, even if the cars built in 8/67 were still using bendix.

    but my panel has 2 bolts, so Jimmy T's offering added wisdom to the discussion.

    i am unlikely to ever subject my car to "judging" (but it would be fun to argue with the judges over such minutia). to the extent possible, i am simply referring to the footnotes in the Parts Manual when clarity is offered. in this case, though, there was no clarity.

    I'll check my electric plate when I get a chance and see if it has the two holes also.
