The cell number apparently belongs to a Kirk Mahoney in Huntington Beach...

I've gotten this call as well. The buyer, also Melissa, contacted my Mother and informed her that she is shopping for old Porsches for her boss. I am in central Illinois and the number she gave my Mom was from Chicago.

I would guess that my Mother got the call, because she still has a public number in the phone book, while I only have a cell phone.

Hi Jay, Yep I have gotten the same call, my guess is they get the info from the PCA member book which lists your name and car. My home phone is the one they call and I am listed in the public phone directory so easy to place a call, except we never answer the land line. She always says she is shopping for her boss, if you tell her the car has been sold she will cross you off the list.

Hey Mike! Good info. It's disappointing that we can't trust PCA anymore.
I didn't bother to return her call, as I don't have any cars for sale. Although my wife thinks I should sell something......

Before you go blaming PCA or other organizations think about the following. Drive your car to a car show or even park it on the street. License plate is available. Once they have a license plate, I believe they can get owner info from DMV. Once they got a name any good search engine that charges for personal info will cough up what they need. You surrendered all that info by using the internet. Right of privacy is bull. Do you folks really believe you can hide?

That guy is a Garbage Person.

Calls my shop once a month with the same shtick, "Hi, I'm friends with so and so. My son and I are looking for an early 911 in any condition."

We usually trade insults and I tell him to never call again...only to have the butt smear call me again the following month.

The "I believe" part of your premise is now quite difficult to achieve. Co-opted membership lists are always a prime source of owner information, especially when the caller is a member of the organization who decides to use the member list for his personal commercial gain. Little that can be done except a slap on the wrist or expulsion from the group, but the damage has already been done and considering how long many of us keep our cars, the information obtained is valid for many years.
