Whoops. Wrong link for the video. Here's the correct one:

Nice crimper! Not inexpensive but the best.

You can use ZEP citrus degreaser on the wires to clean them. Don't use lacquer thinner or anything strong, it will take the stripes off the wires.

As you have discovered, modern replacement wire is not the same as the original. It's not EXACTLY the same size, either-- AWG doesn't quite translate into the equivalent metric size, but you can only tell this with a micrometer.

So what is your plan, clean everything, fix any breaks, put new terminals on the ends and then cover the whole thing back up with PVC tubing like the original?

Yeah, that is a great crimper. Something about German tools. And that comes from a long time Snap-On dealer who used to bleed little red S's.

The plan is to completely rebuild the harness. No patches, etc. All new wire, connectors, crimps, 2 into one spade connectors, fuse panel, sheathing (which raises a question as to when the factory switched to sheathing. One of the 67 harnesses was wrapped and the other sheathed...) and etc. Anything that can be replaced and sourced will be.

But Mr. 304065 I want to ask for your help. I have started a thread about a mystery green wire at a few of the sites (including this one) dedicated to our passion and during the conversation on one site (http://www.912bbs.org/vb/showthread....ery-Green-Wire) I was lead to this thread (http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-with-pictures) where you do quite a bit of discussion about gauge wiring. If you have time could you take a peek and try to help us solve the GWWH (Green Wire Worm Hole)? It's ultimately not a big deal but I just don't understand this green wire in a 67 harness!!

    Steve,

You could also try contacting Kroon Wire Harness, they are pretty great at fabricating new harnesses. They could be helpful in finding some hard-to-find parts.

Sporto temp limit switch wire. As Ed says (you can take what Ed says,,,,,straight to the bank,,,,) the factory placed it there in anticipation. It is in all the SWB harnesses, both 911 and 912.

I have wire harnesses from my old 356’s...
    Believe there were 56 and 65 .
Happy to provide wires or end trims if same or similar.
Perhaps our experts can advise on wire colors, type etc. that can be shared.

Also when I installed new harnesses for 356’s they were made by YNZ’s , assume they are still around and could be a source for wires, connectors etc.
