    6R Deep Sixes 5/68

For sale is a rare pair of deep sixes. The date codes are matching 5/68. These wheels are pre - production wheels probably originating out of the race department. These wheels either were earmarked for an R car or made available to a special customer.
No raised stamp, only ink stamp. Also no hearts. From what I understand, the hearts were at the discretion of the tech at the factory. This info coming from a well known wheel historian.
No rash. Use as is or restore.
So normal deep 6's go for around $1k apiece for 69, 70 dates.
    Asking $3500 For the pair.

Has anyone weighed 6Rs compared to later deep sixes? I’ve always wondered if the 6Rs were teased out a bit more using the standard 5.5 blanks. Later, regular production 6 blanks might have been bumped up for regular road use.

    Just a thought.

    12.2 lbs.
How does that stack up against later wheels ?

I have 6R that come in at 5.2-5.3kg, compared to deep 6 (with heart) at 5.6-5.7kg. For comparison 5.5" are 5.4kg whilst 7R are 5.5kg.

If I do my retarded math correct, that would be the same weight.
Just my jaded opinion, me thinks these wheels are just as rare as 7R wheels.
    Cheers

They are rarer than 7R wheels as there was probably less than 100 made. They were also only made for a year or so unlike the 7R that lasted 4 years.

I also have a pair of these in the loft but don't remember if they have hearts.

    Nice wheels GLWS.

Apart from being slightly lighter is there any other difference to a regular 6" of the same vintage? Are they dimensionally any different?

12.2 lbs = 5.5 kg. Not quite as light as 5.2-5.3kg.

I think both you and Bantam need to get their weighing scales re-calibrated to be 100% sure.

I used to have a pair of real 7R wheels and it had hearts, although the date codes were around 70.

I have one of these as well, date coded 967. I thought it looked a little different compared to the other three that I sent out for restoration and if memory serves me correctly it was lighter than the others but I don't remember by how much.
I'll try to weight them this weekend just for fun.
