I think Vredstein, Pirelli and Michelin make appropriate tires for this wheel (although my Kardex said the car originally came with Dunlops). Anyone have current experience with any of these?

How do you like to drive. Do you want excitement below or above the speed limit?
Vredestein, more stick than you would think.

I bought Vredestein because they are priced better than the competitors.
I have Vredstein on my 5.5s however this car will likely be the subject of a upcoming magazine article so I want to make it as "correct" as possible. I'll take a look at the Pirellis. No one likes the Michelins?
What he said. I have Vredesteins on my 67S. 165-15s on 4.5" Fuchs. It's a great tire for sedate driving, but don't instill confidence if you push them. I've had other brands on SWB cars with 4.5 steel wheels and felt the same. Even freeway driving with a gusty crosswind can be a handful. I suspect that any 165-15 would disappoint in that regard.
If driving hard, you might consider having a set of 5.5" or 6" Fuchs refinished in the 67S style using a wider tire. Huge difference in handling. I've thought about doing that with the S but I drive like a grandma and prefer stock.
I believe the Michelin XAS to be correct

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.
Harvey is finishing my wheels. He suggested the CA67 to be period correct. And you don't need the tube if he has made your wheels tubeless
