What is this on the front hood - 911SWB

    Greetings,

Just sharing a finding while googleing 911L 1968, a weird picture of a, as said, 911R (?): look at the front hood and air vent...??
Maybe known already but first sight for me - wonder what is it for.

that is 911R prototype 1 (Vin 305876) I dont know where the photo is from but here is a photo from Mugello in August of 1968
    New Picture (2).png

It seems to be an experiment for getting better ventilation
the red 911R prototype 2 (306681) had two vents at Mugello in 1967 (Photo below) and later on had one vent as a rally car that you can see just next to one of the hood lights (bottom photo)

They obviously were not carried on the the "series production" 911R's or subsequent 911 cars so I suspect that they were a development dead end

Thank Hugh, very much. Prototypes of prototype

You are a "puit de science".

I was wondering why such an air intake would take place in an early911, maybe the very early air intake development to cool the brakes for the 991.2 GT3RS

    Take care.

There are more pictures of the car here, the fourth picture showing the interior has some extra venting. My guess is the duct is used to push more air at the driver.
