Non-strut aluminum hood and deck lid support ideas or pictures

Has anyone made or bought some kind of supports for aluminum (or steel) hoods and deck lids. I think the gas struts will be way too stiff.

I have used this one: http://www.seinesystems.com/Ult-Strut-Home.htm

You can make one yourself if you are so inclined. For example an old graphite golf club shaft could be used, or a spar for a sail, etc etc

+1 on the Seine Systems strut [no affiliation]

It takes about 5 minutes to install without any drilling for the front hood and costs forty bucks on the bird--PEL-US-1R
