Stuck was a very entertaining guest speaker during motor week last year
Was in clubhouse on way into gym but had to take a snap or two

The motoring committee and team do a great job with interesting display cars changing each week or sometimes several times a week

    Hi Chuck,

We members are treated to an ever changing array of vehicles that are brought up the ramp to the rotunda -- changed every week. A long tradition. They are pretty slick at making the changeover in the early hours. This is in the heart of central London.

I get along to the clubhouse quite often during the week but don't often remember take photos. Here are a few captured on a website but not all would've been on my top list.

Probably not the leakiest old thing they've contended with

This is the first ever land rover in the rotunda which certainly had drip trays

Pleasant unexpected lunch today with Richard Attwood and Derek Bell at RAC country club Woodcote Park in surrey.

Attending the hall of fame event and Attwood sat on the seat next to me then was joined by Bell. They must have felt the Porsche vibe
Charming chaps also Gordon Spice in attendance.

Turns out Derek Bell had raced for the racing team of previous owner of what is now my car. Also a different previous owner of my car had raced a Spice Cosworth to C2 victory success a few decades ago at Le Mans! The racing community is a small world

Tales of 917 and Porsche technician calculating the pre chicane mulsanne top speed on a slide rule in early 70s etc
The corner at Silverstone is named after the old clubhouse near the Epsom Downs

42198D85-37A0-41D6-B25D-DF0813F8A667.jpeg “1959 Porsche 356 A 1600 Super by Reutter, which was supplied new to land and water speed record holder, and former Club member, Donald Campbell. Fittingly for a car that boasts such provenance, the car is on display to members in the rotunda this week”.

It is to be auctioned in early Nov.

Talking of world land speed record holders I once had lunch with Richard Noble in the Brooklands restaurant at Pall Mall a number of years back when I was chairing an engineering industry conference and he was due to appear as our guest speaker. Idea for lunch was to meet and get to know him so I could introduce him at the event to be held at the London Dorchester. Had a lot of fun hearing about his exploits in aviation and land speed (he once held the land speed record as driver in reaching over 630mph) and as programme director for Andy Green’s current record of over 730 mph) Coincidentally current holder Andy Green came along to Brands Hatch to help us launch one of the Lotus that we were developing a few decades ago.

There is a long rich heritage of the club members in pursuit of world land speed records.
Noble like the late Campbells ( both father and son ) is a club member — he was awarded the club’s prestigious Seagrave Trophy; as was Green for his later success. The trophy is in honour of of club member Sir Henry Seagrave who simultaneously held world land and water speed records (killed on lake Windermere)

Between them, Sir Malcolm Campbell and his son, Donald, set 10 speed records on land and 11 on water driving a series of vehicles called “Blue Bird”.

Soon after WW1 Campbells lived in a house on Kingston Hill this plaque marking another point of interest along the A3 corridor an area south west of London where so much automotive, motorsport history is to be found. Home convenient for Brooklands ( the world’s first purpose built banked racing circuit) and elder’s work in the city.

Campbell like Seagrave died in water speed world record attempt on the lake diarist wher I spent a lot of time when growing up. As a kid the events made a strong impression. I. remember watching film or maybe tv of the crash and even had a small pack of still photos that if thumbed recreated this scene:

Not in the rotunda but a nice tribute 722 passing the Clubhouse where Sir Stirling was a member for many years to his home in a nearby Mayfair mews:
