Thread: My first SWB

  1. #1

    My first SWB

After owning 11 assorted LWB cars over the past 25 years I have bought my first SWB.

It is a USA delivered 911 late 1968 year model

It has been in Aust for a awhile and the previous owner did some great work with body repaint and engine rebuild

I plan to return it to more a stock look so steel chromies as delivered are currently being prepared

Think I will draw the line at adding back the front and rear side reflectors though!!! and the smog pump set up is gone forever.

It has BF Torino seats currently but I have a set of comforts which I may re do in B/W houndstooth

Still struggling to determine if it should have a light grey roof lining or light ivory, currently it is black.

Have you driven it yet? Can you feel the difference (SWB vs LWB)? It is beautiful indeed, lucky fellow.

Short drive yesterday but a bit of an electrical gremlin
had me functioning on 5 cylinders so can’t comment much yet.

I know it will be down on power as I have owned RS Carreras and 2.4 E and S cars but I had a lot of fun driving my 2 litre 69 S so hoping to get similar satisfaction once all 6 cylinders are behaving

Yes that is what I am thinking too Chuck but some others still insist it is grey

To be clear, I'm not sure what's correct for your late '68 (I think you're right on the grey/white cusp … It's more that I think ALL 911s, moreover ALL classic coupes should have light colored headliners... I'd put a light colored headliner in every RS out there... but that's just me...……

Since I've been a car 'kid' I've thought that a dark interior with a dark headliner creates non-reflective 'cave'... again that's just me...……..

Oh BTW - I have a black headliner with a black interior in my light yellow '67 Malibu...
If it wasn't original and perfect I'd change it in a flash...……. and yes, it's a 'cave' in there...……

    Cheers

I described it as “coffin like” which I guess equates with “cave like”.
