In the meantime... This other VDO celsius oil temp gauge showed up today, from Germany.

The gauge is not quite what I'm looking for with a slight style variation of the incremental scale-range marks on the dial, while compared to the 917K VDO oil pressure gauge I have.

    Also NOS and with a 10.86 date-code.

I had to buy it--just in case.

Yep, I noticed that Motometer with the 30-100 scale range and thought about contacting North Hollywood, or Palo Alto to inquire about the needed changes.

With the same thought in mind, I also purchased this other 12v Motometer oil temp gauge, found it in Venezuela, South America out of all places...

A bit dirty and in need of restoration, it has a chrome bezel and painted with the ivory colored dial.

This gauge does offer a correct temperature range (40-120) and an interesting 'critical-level' range. The black indicator needle can be easily changed.

And it comes with the sender.

This is an earlier Motometer oil temp gauge with a 65' date code. Gauge is on its way, should arrive in a week or so.

    Another option?

At first glance, this gauge looks to have yet another style needle indicator in the Motometer line of gauges from that period.

That black button-center needle is really a black-dot sticker placed over the dial's glass.

Okay, not exactly the same gauge pulled out of a 908 or 917... but for all practical purposes and in my application, this VDO will work. The gauge was restored by North Hollywood.

Might as well include a few photos of the VDO 10K tach I'm using in my 917 instrument-cluster conversion project. Frankly, I didn't even know these existed.
This gauge is not 'chronometric' as those found in the 908/917, but rather, it uses a 'magnetic-driven' mechanism.

As with most racing gauges, this one is no exception. It uses the 'non-glare' type frosted glass.

    Mechanical tach drive-ratio is 1:4, date-code 3.77

And who to blame---what started it all for me with the idea of a VDO mechanical 10K gauge and 917K instrument cluster conversion...

This particular VDO has a tell-tale needle, not sure if it has the 'chronometric' or the 'magnetic' movement.

PS: If in the future, should I ever come across the 'chrono' version of this VDO 10K tach, depending on price, I may just have to buy it.

These colorful warning lamps complement the various gauges used in the dash of a 917K

I currently have a couple of pending projects in the works and in the next few weeks I hope to be able to start on the 914-to-917k bezel mods...

There are two versions of this Motometer Oil Temperature gauge; mechanical and electrical.

Below are some photos of a gauge I recently purchased, it is 'electrical' and needs to be restored. My plans are to change the dial color to black, the pointer to white and the bezel from chrome to black. The scale-range 40-120 will remain the same.

The date code stamped on the back of this gauge is 10.65

Only posting these photos to show some progress, I'm still looking for an original 917K Motometer Oil Temperature Gauge as depicted by the very first post on this thread.

Thank you all for your assistance, you too Uli (I really like the one gauge you located with the black-dial, little has to be change, only the bezel)...

This gauge arrived a couple of days ago, and it actually works!

    20180625_124429a.jpg

It is in need of restoration and at the same time, the gauge will be changed to reproduce the 917K Motometer gauge dial (black dial, white needle, black bezel).

We're keeping the 'critical range' scale the same, black color inverted.
