    what is this button for?

    Hi,
I have finally received my 2.4E Targa after two months of waiting for it to cross Atlantic (from LA to France). As a 911 newbie, I am discovering my car which is wonderfull even if I have some work on it, but that's the good part for me ;-)
I have a question about this button. It is not referenced in the manual I have found but I have seen it on other cars in pictures on internet (the button right to the ignition). Does anyone can tell me what it is for?

    Thanks

It could be for a rear wiper. Or, perhaps for auxiliary fog/ driving lights. .....cliff

Thanks Cliff, you've got it, it's the rear wiper switch. I couldn't find out since the wiper is missing.

Is the wiring harness still in the car? That’s a switch for a factory rear wiper!

I didn't have time to have a look yet (got the car 2 days ago) but I hope so. Since its an original option, it would be great to have it back again. I'll let you know.

The rear wiper harness is separate from the main harness in the tunnel. It is friction taped to the main wiring, almost impossible to remove from the tunnel. It still could of been cut at the ends.

Good info, gled49. I was hoping that it is still connected at the switch, which would be a good indication that it is still there! It would be a hassle to remove for sure, fingers crossed....cliff

I have one of those, and assumed it was for fog lights as there is no rear wiper on my car...

Easiest way is to have a look in the engine bay. I found the wiring for my rear wiper hanging around the left hand side hinge.
