Thread: SWB Battery

    SWB Battery

A few weeks back I bought a Bosch battery for a Miata at Pep Boys for an early car. Got around to installing it yesterday and found it had some plastic
structure (for warning labels) that prevented attaching the terminals, which was remedied by hacking it off.
A bigger problem is, to connect the terminals , both are on the body side. Not much clearance or safety.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a sealed type battery that works with the standard SWB mount and cover?

Any "group 51R" battery has worked well for me. I've used Interstate in the past and most recently, Autocraft (Advanced Auto)

Yes, 51R. You can get it at any auto parts store since it's also a Honda Accord battery

These are the batteries I use in my early cars. I have bought them from a number of suppliers before. The number seems to be consistent among manufacturers. It is a Miata battery. AGM so no leaking even on it’s side. About $100. I keep all my cars on trickle chargers and have had good luck with this battery. East Penn, Deka and Batteries Plus have them.
