    VW Type II Show . . .

. . . took place at Veteran's Stadium, in Long Beach, CA, 09-Jun

My buddy Roman told me about this, like, the day before the event, and, since I have a kindova weird attraction for almost anything air-cooled, anyway . . .

    Besides, I'm pretty-much down for any kinda 'swap' event as it is --- but/still . . .

    . . . I had NO idea

    1) Traffic was mildly disorganized. Don't think it was more than $5 to park, so just about any Type II with wheels seemed to 've showed-up. Love events like this. I remember when Porsche shows were like this . . .

    2) Used to work here. When Boeing took over DC Commercial, they pretty-much demo'd everything --- all the old shops + hangars. All that's left are the bigger/newer hangars and the last set of office towers. All the rest looks like it's been converted over to car storage for the Port. Hasn't hurt local property values, though. Anyway . . . cool that Boeing left up the sign

3 + 4) Fo' sale. Looked like a quickish re-spray + some sketchy sheet-metal = pass. Love these things but they can be a real chore to de-rustifacate

    5) Earth-warmers

    6) Haven't seen one o' deez since the Tet Offensive. Missing its metal-flake vinyl seat . . . but/otherwise looks to be all-there. Even still has its OG cheater slick? Only at a swap-meet

    7 + 8) Patches. Looooooooooooooosta patches

9 + 10) All kindsa weird stuff --- like the kinda crap you'd carry around . . . in Type II? Looks like an old Binks air-compressor --- for an air brush. Nexta what looks like . . . an oscillascope?

. . . my Grampa had one when we went camping in Sequoia --- WAY back . . .

Amazing to see something like this, again. One good ding and it's pretty-much done. And look at this one . . .

    . . . ready for Sequoia?

    . . . dunno this vehicle's vintage --- no YoM sticker present . . . but . . .

    . . . plate looks to be ~1961, frame ~ten years later

    Someone needs to do a trade for this --- like/maybe a Ricketts. . .

. . . 'cause IMO that Circle frame has no business being there

Kinda cool weirdo (vintage?) theft-resistant hardware

    More Type II Show . . .

    . . . rubbed-through paint, cardboard- + vinyl- + formica-swathed interiors, whitewall tires + curb-feelers . . .

    . . . and a Honda Trail mini-bike --- like the one I 1st rode! . . .

. . . all decomposing quietly in a soft ocean breeze

Love black wheels w/ hub caps. And check-out the CB

Man --- am I'm getting my air-cooled on!
