THE pinnacle of wooden boat shows in an amazing setting.
As an update, after what seemed like an eternity of waiting for winter to finally end and the new 5200 bottom work to get wrapped up, we picked up our newest family member, “Lake Girl”, and dropped her in the water over Memorial Day weekend. Not only is she pretty sweet to look at, but the rumble of her flat 6 is frankly mesmerizing, even better when’s she’s on the water . I’ll try to add a video of firing her up, and here a few pics from the last few weekends at the lake.

And just like that, Chester (our ‘68 911L) is no longer the oldest mechanical beast in our family ....

Thread reminds me....Around the time I bought my Carrera RS a colleague bought a classic Riva ( former tender to yacht I'm told) down in Monaco at auction. He proceeded to fix it up over time and then became quite active in the Riva owners club. Iirc he had studied marine engineering degree level at university on South coast UK and his father was very handy craft skills type -- he made wooden waterskiis and such if memory serves me. Colleague often bought required parts when travelling on business -- in fact when together one business trip I recall lugging bits back in my suitcase for him as his own luggage was full of other Riva things already.
Different times nowadays -- probably wouldn't so readily carry such things back these days even for a good workpal.
Riva of that era truly beautiful especially when seen in Mediterranean Riviera setting. Nice chap. Lost touch when we left get workplace.
Steve
Not that either were bought for investment reasons but both have appreciated better than we would've ever imagined as hobby "boys toys" around quarter of a century ago.

For those who dig old boats as much as our air cooled cars, I thought I'd post a few videos from this weekend on the water with Lake Girl, our 1936 Chris Craft 19' Runabout ..... a morning coffee cruise with my parents and few drive-bys with my sons. This old flathead six is a blast to drive, and she puts the same dumb smile on my face as I get when when I'm cruising down the open road in my '68 911L
