Need help on removing gear from speedometer

This is a 76 speedometer where the odometer stopped working. On the surface the gears looks fine, but I am thinking the stripped out part is hidden. To remove the gear looks, at least to me, that the brass part holding the plastic gear in place would need to be taken out first.
    Thanks for the help.

The pot metal gear is slipping on the shaft on the end of the odometer drum. I am going through this right now on my 73. I ordered a gear and paid through PayPal and cant get them to respond to any emails. Your pic doesn't show that end

How's this, the round brass fitting?
So my question is how do I get the gear off?

Could you see missing teeth before you took it apart?

    Speedo

Once you get the shaft and small sprockets out you push the shaft out of the drum. I used welding rod cut the inside length of the drum so the drum doesn't fall apart when removing it. The brass gear stays on the shaft so move it in that direction.

No missing teeth. The gray gear in my pic is the one that is slipping.

No need to replace the grey metal gear. With the gear off on a flat metal surface, use a flat punch and strike the center of the gear. This will reduce the diameter of the center hole, slightly. Test with the shaft for a snug fit, then reassemble.
