Thread: Straight Answer Please

    Straight Answer Please

RickRick had a car for sale in "For-Sale-Wanted-Other-Porsche-Cars-and-Parts".

    Car sells. Ad disappears.

News to me that cars that have sold disappear after they sell.

Many SOLD cars and items show up on the site and are still up.

I find old sales interesting and the history attached to them is fun to read.

Along the lines of sold cars that are STILL UP I give you the following 3. There are plenty more.
If you're gong to remove one you need to apply that rule to all of them that are SOLD.

    SOLD:

    SOLD:

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...highlight=SOLD

    The list goes on...

    Pick me! Pick me!

I believe the misconception exists that a classified ad is the “property” of the seller and they can request that it be removed after a sale is consummated.
I’m just surprised mods oblige this in a public forum; when we post don’t we all accept that our words become public domain? (Not saying it happens here.) 😏

My understanding is he didn't ask for it to be removed. He was surprised when he went to look at the ad this morning.

My current methodology is to delete ads if the author deletes the price as in this case. For me, once something is sold and the price is removed, it no longer serves as a reference. It's just a collection of pictures. I will be interested in the follow up comments.

PS - I only moderated this ad rather than delete it. Must've had a premonition.

Removing prices from sold items is one of my pet peeves. It's hard to establish a price history for an item one wants to sell. Then everyone bites your head off when asking for a value.

Agreed. But deleting entire posts is even worse. Many times those ads contain information that could be helpful to future owners.

if server capacity can hold the info......keep it, or make a new ‘sold’ section and move these ads over there....

history is important for the presence...no this, no that

At the scale we're discussing, data storage is essentially free.

+1 There is little reason to remove the price after it's sold. Even though it doesn't tell what was eventually paid, together with other ads from that period, it is an indication of the market at that point in time
