Help- Fitting Sugar Scoops to Fenders

I am in the process of trying to install my sugar scoops onto the fenders for my '70E project. The scoops fit fine without the seals but seem to be impossible to mount with the seals installed. I am using new seals from IMC .

I am not sure if I have the seals installed properly (see photo).

What is the best process to follow to get these to fit with the seals in place?

I think your seals are installed correctly, but you might have to change the angle of the nut at the bottom.
Using a pair of pliers.....gently.....bend the fixed mounting nut towards the front of the car......just a little bit.
You will probably have to remove the headlight to get the pliers in the right position.
I have done this on several cars that had 'uncooperative headlights'.
    I hope this helps.

I will give that a look.

My problem seems to be that the seal is too thick. Without the seal, the ring mounts correctly and the nut at the bottom lines up nicely with the hole in the trim ring. With the seal in place, I can't even get the trim ring to move down and over the sealed beam assembly. I have not tried lubing up the seal and fender lip with Sylglide yet.

Understood, so changing the angle might not be your answer. Sorry.
I generally really like the IMC rubber, but I think Stoddard has some really thin seals.
    Maybe that's your answer.

This is a full restoration with new factory fenders and fresh paint.

I will check into the thinner seals. Seem to be the right direction. Thanks

    Just found this thread....

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...eadlight+seals

On my RSR build with F/G fenders, I used 3M weatherstripping adhesive instead of a seal to hold the H4 rings in place. Ensures they never pop out and looks like a seal. May end up going that route if all else fails.

Decided to practice with a spare OEM HL bucket and spare HL parts. No issue to fit the trim ring with the seal in place. I will have to take a closer look at the buckets on my fresh fenders.

From the photo the seal is NOT on correctly.....turn it 90 degrees so that the narrow step/part of the seal( closest to the opening in the pic) fits down in the groove between the bucket lip and the actual fender. The way you have it oriented it is too thick.

My little procedure for fitting either sugar scoops or H-1/4s is just get the screw located in the tab hole while holding it snug with the screws driver. While it's just loose hook the top of the rim over the bucket lip. Sometimes I do snug the screw juuuust a bit, and literally pop the top of the chrome rim over the bucket lip. It's always fiddly and tight taking three hands!

Yeah...I talked to a local early 911 expert here in CT today. He also pointed out the incorrect orientation of the seal and suggested the thinner 356 seals. I have a pair coming from Stoddard.
