    Might have found a car for long term resto

    Edit: I have given up on this car. Non matching engine with dubious stamping, clerical errors in the registration papers (good luck correcting these 27 years later...) and likely hopeless rust. Too bad, it is an S.

    Now that I have finished building my new garage/workshop, I have been idly looking for an early car to restore over the years with my son (now 11). I have found this one, a bit of a fright pig, but seemingly an S with original engine/gearbox. Recaro Ideals are a plus in my opinion.
    Opinions, warnings, ideas welcome. I am visiting the car on monday, it is reserved for me until then.

    Don't know much about the car yet. Front latch panel is still correct, fenders have fg extensions (de-) laminated on. Obvioulsy missing 4 fenders, 2 complete bumpers, and a front lid (I have an alloy lid). I am leaning towards new parts where available for rust avoidance reasons.
    I know the shell with have to get dipped and I would like to know, which parts will be hard or impossible to source.
    I am working on finding a shop with a Celette bench. I even see some for sale on the web, with the puller. Are the fitting still available anywhere, even for body shops?
    I am not planning on a Dave Conklin-esque 100+ point restoration.

    An immense and costly project. Unless you truly want the 'experience' of such an undertaking (whether you do it yourself or hand over tons of money in a 'checkbook' restoration to someone else - as you mention finding a shop with a Celette bench) I don't see the upside at all. Others may be more optimistic than me, but I think there are much more suitable candidates out there. Even if the initial cost of a car that is a better starting point is more expensive, you'll be may $$$ ahead in the end.
