    Hi Stephen

    Thanks for sharing....

"The next acquisition he made way back when was a very cheap 2.2E, but he didn’t keep it long… and as crazy as it sounds today, he swapped it for a 2.7 RS! “It sounds [like] an incredible story to say it now, but in 1992 no one wanted a 2.7 RS. Back then the 964 RS had just come out so the 2.7 was considered just an old and underpowered car, and people either ripped them apart to make them go faster or they got rid of them in exchange for something faster. This one was really original, which today is amazing, but back in 1992 meant that it was just slow. It was my dream car as a boy which is why I wanted it. I had no idea what it would come to be worth.”

I bought my largely unmolested first series RS around same time so his recollection of how things were back then (above) resonates with my experience -- the model year 73 RS was regarded somewhat obscure curious rather niche choice of car that totally baffled my friends who typically put their money into flashy modern cars of the time. Cars that are probably long ago on the scrap heap or crushed. Used to hang out with a handful of early Porsche enthusiasts in a third Wednesday of month pub meet in Richmond upon Thames and discuss finer points with some folks -- some of these pals are still around and in regular touch. Other very dear friend/s deeply knowledgable Porsche specialist expert passed away and is very much missed.

Interesting when reading the recollections to reflect how views on such things change over time and how these days the world and their brother are now all "73 RS cognoscenti"

    Cheers

    Steve
