thoughts on 5.5x15 space saver spare wheels as primary wheels for a hot rod/ rat?

I have a set of 15x7 torque thrusts that I am planning on using on my '68 Rat that I am in the process of going through. However a local guy has a set of 4 space saver wheels. Are these pretty much identical to normal steel wheels once you change the valve stem etc?

He wants 250.00 for all 4. ...thought maybe this would be a decent option for another set of wheels.

Anyone care to chime in or educate me?

    Thank You,

    Jay

If it's a set of one of the alloy versions $250 is a steal... if you don't take 'em, please forward to me and I'll give you a $500 finder's fee.

Here's an old sales thread for both versions, prices aren't going down because either is hard to find anymore. $1500-2000 a set is typical.

No, not the newer ones. I get that those are different. ...the normal steel space saver typical of a 911. They look like the typical "steelies" wondering if I'm missing something other than perhaps a date stamp.

Those are 15 x 5 1/2 and $250.00 for 4 is a screaming deal. The later ones (77 or near that and later) have a raised “volcano” around the wheel stud holes to equal the same thickness as alloy wheels. They will work just fine on your 68 cause 68 and later cars have longer wheel studs than 67 and older cars. If they happen to be the early version they will work just fine, too. Just make sure to use open ended (steel) lug nuts. Putting the early version steel wheels on a 68 or Later car using alloy lug nuts will cause the end of the lug nut to blow out due to the longer stud. There, I have most likely bored the heck out of you or added to your useless trivia bank. I’ll bet you have already had a few PMs asking for the seller’s contact info.

    Regards

    Jim
PS: I’m sitting at BWI waiting for a flight that departs in 4 hours and I am bored to tears
