Top teams in drag racing use billet. If you want to make real horsepower the blocks, heads etc. are billet. FWIW; Viewed a 2,000 HP 4 cylinder Mitsubishi today! World record holder. 6.2 @ 225 mph.

CNC has come a long way in a short time. Casting is fine IF you have the facility and the ability to perform processes like HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing)

    Cheers!

    Tom,
When there are "no more" is at least 10-20 years from now... and I'll put my money where my mouth is on that one.

I would love to see a 2000hp turbo 2.5 911 motor but this conversation is about naturally aspirated small bore vintage race motors topping out at 400hp(?)
50 year old cast cases do the job exceedingly well. And the only time we need to "fix" one is when it gets blowed up.

Even with a billet case, repairs will be necessary when rotating and reciprocating parts try to escape through unfortunate part or assembly failures.

    Lol.

Don't get me wrong; I'm a HUGE fan of utilizing tech for vintage race motors but if it ain't broke...

The expense and weight will make these cases a non-starter for the vast majority of potential prospects. But I do give the OP tons o credit for his pioneering spirit.

I must admit; you're the first that has bothered doing one for the early distributor. Beautiful.

Comes in at about 80 lbs?

    Happy New year.

We made back to back comparison of the mag. case - our case and the early turbo alu. case.

Our billet case is too heavy at the moment, we aim to trim it down to the same weight as the early turbo alu. case.
