    I think what was said is the first Sporto went into a 911R protoypte 307671S
    and this 3380001 would be the first sporto in a production car??

    There was a memo from Piech directly to build a special engine for
    The R3 with sportomatic transmission for the 1967 Marathon de la Route.
    I will find and post the info.

    3380001 was a 901/17 sporto engine for USA EMISSION MODIFIED 1968 130 HP cars (911L) There was other totally separate series of Sporto engines for the rest of the world that were not modified for US emissions. They were 218xxxx 901/13 for the 110HP (911T) engines; 318xxxx 901/07 for the 130HP (911) engines and 418xxxx 901/08 for the 160 HP (911S) engines
