    Whew...
    You had me concerned.

Hopefully the stock mirror rubber covers the old imprint.

Would love to see pics of the bottom side if possible.

And the holes match. I suspect they do since it is a factory mirror. What bottom do you want to see? The bottom of the mirror base? I'll post that to this thread sometime in the future.

I might just send those rock deflectors to you to install on the 914-6. A little extra streamlined downforce right at the wheel.

Still, I have never seen a 911 with that mirror, yet they were offered. Odd. I would like to solve the pliers mystery too.

    Bottom of the car.
    Mirror bottoms don't interest me.

    Thanks.

Those mirrors are no where near "factory". Porsche never made or offered a RH, chrome (actually stainless steel), rectangular mirror. I repeat, NEVER. The only RH mirror available for 72/73 was a round Durant mirror like the ones for 68-71 cars. Those can be installed on either side of the car. The 74/75 mirror was larger than the 72/73 mirror but never came in a RH version, either. The 74/75 mirror didn't have a grey surround, either. It was black like the other mirrors. Frank is correct in saying that many people used a RH mirror from a BMW but your mirrors are not that mirror. I have never seen your mirrors on any other car. Porsche has been guilty in the past of telling a client what they wanted to hear and the info from Porsche was just that. The mirror in the picture is a 74/75 miror installed on my car back in the early 80s. Sorry for all the dead bugs on the back of the mirror. They were collected on a drive in NorCal 3 weeks ago through the area burned in the "Camp Fire". What a disaster.

    Regards

    Jim

Look at post #7, part # and picture matches what is on Scott's car.

I was going to post that as well Mike. It is right there in the Porsche PET with the part number the factory gives. There is correspondence in our files that references that mirror with that part number as a Porsche part. Not sure what the right side is, but the original owner references in a letter back to the factory that he was able acquire a pair from a local dealer in OH. I am happy to post those letters for reference.

Now, I know Jim is one of the undisputed parts experts here - I am only pointing out what I am seeing from factory parts diagrams and correspondence. Not sure why they would offer this mirror when the larger 74/75 mirror was available and much better looking.

No, that mirror is no where near what is on Scott's car. Those PET pictures are horrible. The mirror on my car is a factory 74/75 mirror. The base and stem is the same for the 72/73 mirrors, too.

    regards

I agree with you. Don't take those mirrors off the car. Just leave them alone.

    Ciao

Thanks for your advice and compliments Jim. The mirror on my car sure looks like #8 in the PET pic. I know #6 is what you have on your car and came standard on my low mileage 75S. Very nice mirror too. But if you look closely at #8 you can see a Phillips head screw depicted just like on my mirrors. And it sure appears to be the same as #8 in the drawing. And the part number is different than the standard 74/75 mirror. Same as what the factory suggested in their correspondence. Wouldn't you agree?

What do you think about the pliers?
