S Registry#2021
Just to confirm/confuse...
My NOS mirror with Porsche labeling is in fact a 911 731 017 00. Looks like Scott's and the one on the blue car above.
But I still believe it to be a BMW part that Porsche offered.
Interesting stuff. I'm sure Porsche was taking a bunch of heat for not offering a RH mirror. They must have purchased a batch of mirrors, slapped a part number on them and sold them until they ran out. Must have been just before the time that they came out with electric mirrors that were standard on the left side and optional on the passenger side. Frank, is there a date on the part tag for your mirror? I'm betting that it is in 75 or 76.
Regards
Jim
Found the mirror but bag and label turned to dust. (I’ve owned for 25 years; who knows how long it was lying around before that.)
Definitely a Porsche offered part as the 911 part number is on my original dealer inventory list from 25 years ago.
Truly an ugly mirror but it matches those bitchin mud flaps. I would leave mirrors on.
I agree, Frank, it is not the most attractive mirror and it looks a whole hell of a lot better without that grey beading on it. At least now I know where to go when I need a replacement. Same place if I want to put a sporto back in my hotrod. Hey don't make fun of my mud flaps! I promise that if I remove them, I am going to send them to you.
Interesting take on it from Jim's perspective. I'll bet that is exactly what Porsche did back then. I wonder where they got them from.

Yes; the grey rubber reminds me of a millennial helicopter mom's coffee table.

It’s a lovely looking car.
I think the pliers look correct for a 73.5. They just have had the grips covered in red rubber (?) by someone with tender hands.
The rest of the kit looks correct for a late 73 car so no reason to suspect the pliers are any different.
